The Sundstrand arrived in 1912 and was the first adding machine to offer the "modern" ten-key layout, which still is used on calculators (but not on telephones) today: 7, 8, 9; 4, 5, 6; 1, 2, 3.
The Sundstrand company was founded by Swedish immigrant Oscar Sundstrand of Rockford, Illinois. Later it merged with the Underwood typewriter company, offering adding and accounting machines under the Underwood-Sundstrand name. The company also offered the Elliott-Fisher accounting machine, designed to type directly into the ledger.

Som man kanske kan gissa var Oskar Sundstrand svensk immigrant och bodde i Rockford, Illinois. Så småningom kom Sundstrandbolaget att ingå i Underwood-koncernen och tillverkade både additions- och bokföringsmaskiner under namnet Underwood-Sundstrand. Underwood sålde även Elliott-Fishers bokföringsmaskin som kunde skriva direkt i huvudboken.
