The ancestor of the German Olympia was the Universal typewriter company (USG), which today is best known for having built the Mignon index machine, which eventually changed its name to Olympia Plurotyp. The Olympia brand name, however, dates back to 1921, and the factory is still extant in Wilhelmshaven, Germany.
The two drab-colored portables illustrated (which were also offered under the brand name Orbis) date from the late 1960s, while the orange-colored plastic-bodied Monica Electric is a typical example of the 1970s typewriter design.
Föregångarna till Olympia hette Universal Schreibmaschinen-Gesellschaft (USG) och är mest känd för den originella visaremaskinen Mignon, även känd som Olympia Plurotyp. Märket Olympia har emellertid funnits sedan 1921. Fabriken ligger i Wilhelmshaven i Tyskland.
Mina två reseskrivmaskiner av märket Olympia får stå som representanter för det sena 1960-talets formgivning. Maskinen såldes även under namnet Orbis.
Och så här såg 1970-talets Olympia ut. Modellen heter Monika Electric.
