The 1950s and 1960s saw the development of the ten-key Contex, ranging from the 'people-powered' model 10 to the electrical models 20, 30 (illustrated above) and 55, the last-mentioned being the 'top of the range' featuring automatic division. There also was an electronic version of the Contex with red fluorescent tubes.
Contex was a "single-handed" machine, operation of the plus key meant to be carried out with a touch of the wrist. On the non-automatic models, division was a most cumbersome affair as each digit was to be calculated individually and written down by hand before proceeding to the next. In the United States it sold as the Bohn-Contex, and in the USSR a 'pirate copy' was manufactured under the name Bystritsa.
These were the respective models and years of introduction:
Contex-10: manual, introduced in 1957.
Contex-20: electric version of #10, introduced in 1961.
Contex-30: as above, with semi-automatic multiplication, introduced in 1965.
Contex-55: as above, with automatic division, introduced in 1968.

1957 kom en ny Contexmodell med 10 tangenter. Maskinerna var antingen handdrivna som modell 10 eller eldrivna som modell 30 (bilden överst på sidan). Serien avslutades 1968 med "toppmodellen" Contex 55 (bilden ovan) med automatisk division. Det fanns också en elektronisk variant av Contex med lysande röda siffror (bilden längst ned på sidan).
Contex är avsedd att manövreras med en hand, varvid plustangenten skall nedtryckas med handleden. På de icke-automatiska modellerna är division en ganska besvärlig procedur då man måste beräkna varje decimal för sig och skriva ned den för hand. Se nedanstående länk där metoden finns beskriven.
I USA såldes maskinen under namnet Bohn-Contex, i Sovjet tillverkades "piratkopior" under namnet Bystritsa.
