The Rheinmetall adding machine was introduced in 1932. Made by the Rheinmetall Werke of Sommerda, Germany (which also made typewriters and accounting machines) it appears to be just another printing adder like the Sundstrand. Illustrated above is the electric Model AE.
A second glance, however, reveals its characteristical ribbon spooling and moving printing mechanism - not unlike the corresponding mechanisms on the Corona Portable. But what makes the Rheinmetall stand out are the two registers above the keyboard - one showing the last entry, the other showing the sub-total.
Rheinmetall additionsmaskin kom på marknaden år 1932. Fabriken låg i Sömmerda, Tyskland, och modellprogrammet innefattade både skrivmaskiner och bokföringsmaskiner. Vid första påseendet verkar Rheinmetall vara en konventionell tryckande additionsmaskin av Sundstrandtyp. På bilden syns den eldrivna modell AE.
Maskinen visar sig dock vara en högst egensinnig konstruktion med unik färgbandsmekanism och rörligt tryckverk. En liknande mekanism finns dock på Corona Portable. Speciellt för Rheinmetall är emellertid att maskinen är försedd med såväl inställnings- som subtotalregister.
